The Spahr Family Tony, Sheri, Anthony II, and Daniel
Date: 8-1-2005
Our Story: Hap Ki Do has done so many positive things for my family and me. Hap Ki Do for one is a great stress reliever. It has helped relieve a lot of stress from my job, which in turn has helped me deal with the everyday stresses of family life better. We have become even closer that we already were, by sharing an activity together. I started Hap Ki Do in 1985 and went until I was a brown belt, and then sadly I was unable to continue for reasons beyond my control. So, I went to college and started my family. I often longed to get back into my martial arts training.
The years went by, but the dream of Hap Ki Do was still alive. I often thought of Master Lee, Bob Schreiner, and Mike Ormstead. It was like a part of me, and my family was missing. The day finally came when I thought my boys were old enough to take martial arts, and I found Master Lee again and signed my boys and myself up. My dream was becoming a reality and we were all very excited about our 1st class.
Not long after we started Master Lee's dream of owning his own school was becoming a reality. It was a joyous time for all. My sons and I were going to Hap Ki Do and learning a lot especially the boys. They learned discipline, and self respect, and how to respect others. Their grades in school improved, they were getting healthier, and quit watching TV so much. They even quit saying I'm bored. They have gained new friends. They love Hap Ki Do and so do I.
Then one day Master Lee said "What does your wife Sheri do while you are here? Why does she not come to class too" I said I will ask her. My wife then started Hap Ki Do too and she loves it. It has been very good for my wife as she has never liked to exercise. She has lost weight, firmed up, learned discipline, and self defense. Hap Ki Do has done so much for me and my family. We have reconnected with my old family, and many new family members. It has brought us closer, made us aware of our surroundings, taught us self defense, and is just a great thing to do. It is something that my family and I will do together for a long time. It's great to be here again and Hap Ki Do is so much more then a Martial Art, it is a way of life!
