Hee Kwan Lee was born July 7, 1955 in the small village of Yaun Sahn, South Korea. Master Lee began his training at age six in Seoul, South Korea under the direction of Master Instructor Young Chang Kim in the art of Moo Moo Kwan Hapkido(also spelled Hap Ki Do). During his life, Master Lee has trained in many different martial arts, but found that Moo Moo Kwan Hapkido was the martial art that interested him the most. As a result of this Master Lee became a two time Korean National Hap Ki Do Champion.
Master Lee wanted to venture out and spread his knowledge in Hapkido. He decided that the United States was the best place to do this. So, at the age of 24, on December 21, 1979 Master Lee came to the United States as a 5th degree black belt to teach Moo Moo Kwan Hapkido at the International Academy of Martial Arts in Kalamazoo Michigan.
In 1980, Master Lee decided to open his own school. He decided to open a school in Battle Creek, Michigan, which he called Korean Martial Arts Hapkido. Master Lee found Battle Creek to be his location of choice for this school. He has since made a home in Battle Creek, with a wife and two children. However, his training has never stopped. He still makes numerous trips to Korea to update and enhance his skills. The results of this, have earned him the rank of 8th Degree Grand Master Instructor.
