Mike Ormstead was born on March 17, 1951, in Flint, Michigan. His Martial Arts training began in Uechi-Ryu Karate, while attending Western Michigan University in the early 1970s. He graduated from WMU in 1974, with a BBA in Business Administration.
In 1983, Mike was introduced to Grand Master Lee on Goguac Lake in Battle Creek, Michigan, while instructing Grand Master Lee in the sports of water skiing and kite flying behind a boat. A strong friendship was formed and Mike's training in the art of Hap Ki Do began soon after their meeting. Mike's strong interest in Hap Ki Do has now covered more than 20 years of training with Grand Master Lee and he has attained the level of Eighth Degree Black Belt Instructor.
